The Buteyko Institute Method...
...is an educational programme of breathing exercises and principles about breathing, sleeping, eating and exercise. It is taught by a fully-trained Instructor, either one-to-one or in small groupsButeyko is not about throwing away your drugs, nor does it involve physiotherapy, diaphragm breathing exercises, meditation, hypnotherapy, special diets, or any unproven theraputic systems.
Buteyko is based on sound scientific concepts and published physiological and biological research.
It requires just a few minutes a day to achieve these resultsBenefits of learning Buteyko

The Buteyko Method is a proven effective treatment for asthma and other breathing disorders. It also enhances sports performance, giving greater stamina.
People generally experience noticeable relief and reduction in symptoms and medication within the first few days of following the programme. This gives a significant financial saving in both in medication and in less time lost to illness.
About The Buteyko Method
Buteyko is not 'magic' but is based on sound medical principles and understanding.
The Buteyko Breath Retraining Method is a series of breathing exercises that restore normal breathing patterns.
Breathing is the most fundamental function of our bodies. When we correct our breathing, our whole system benefits.
As we retrain ourselves in healthy breathing, symptoms of chronic conditions are alleviated. Over time, less medication is needed and dependence on such devices such as CPAP machines or dental splints can be eliminated. As more efficient breathing evolves, the tissues receive more oxygen and a stronger immune system results.
Our energy also improves, allowing us to take part in physical activity with greater ease. As we become more active endorphins are released, elevating our state of mind. (It is estimated that 60% of people with debilitating chronic conditions also experience depression.)
We are better able to cope with health challenges and stress. We are more inclined to take better care of ourselves, leading to being symptom-free, medication-free and healthier than ever.
Ideally we should inhale 4-6 litres of air per minute, equivalent to roughly 8-10 breaths per minute. But people with respiratory disorders can breathe up to 3 times this amount, resulting in an excess of 20,000 breaths per day.
Hyperventilation, over breathing and mouth breathing all contribute to the release of CO2 from the body, upsetting the O2 - CO2 balance.
Sustained low levels of CO2 cause the breathing centre in the brain to reset to a level which encourages hyperventilation or over-breathing. The average asthmatic, breathing 12-15 litres per minute, has a CO2 level of 30 to 36mm Hg Pa.
Buteyko exercises correct this balance. With practice, the Buteyko method allows the person to permanently elevate their levels of CO2. The natural breathing reflex can then return to the normal level of 40mm Hg pa.
The Buteyko Method is suitable for all ages from 5 years to 95 years
